I was working on the computer this morning, so Heather and Jonathan made it downstairs before I did. Jonathan asked Heather if he could make breakfast (eggs, since it is Saturday), and Heather said that he wasn't ready to do it by himself, and do it with Daddy. (More)

Thunderstorm

Last night we had a spectacular and very close thunderstorm roll though. The lightning actually struck a transformer down the street, cutting our power at around 10:30. (More)

Common Recent Sayings, Hiccups

Jonathan now has an imaginary friend. Her name is "Su-su" or "Soot-soot" or some combination/permutation of those sounds. She has a big house (not a small one) and she has toys there, usually three. We like to go to her house in the evenings if we aren't going somewhere else. (More)

Spyware Removal

Found an interesting spyware/virus/malware/etc at the Quinlisks yesterday. It was a "Browser Helper Object (BHO)", a method of getting your own code put inside of the windows explorer, and thus pretty hard to remove. (More)

The Pa Game, Drawing

Recently, Jonathan has been drawing a lot. He likes markers best, but if I don't have enough energy for them (supervision - though he can now clean up the table himself when he gets some there which makes it easier on me) he will do crayons. (More)

Oral Arguments

From Vicki:
Just a reminder that Oral Arguments will be heard tomorrow in Judy's case. The judge could make a ruling tomorrow from the bench, or otherwise he has up to 120 days to rule. There is a possibility the case could be dismissed or it could go to trial. I will post an update as soon as I've heard from Judy after court tomorrow with the results. (More)

Robin Nest 2006

On Saturday morning, April 1st, I saw the mother robin checking out the nest over our door. I put up a blanket over the window (since I never got to finding a one-way glass) so our comings and goings would not disturb the nesting. There are no eggs yet, and I have not seen her again. I sincerely hope that my seeing her that morning did not dissuade her from picking that spot for her nest this year.

Verizon Credit Check

I got a notification from a credit bureau today saying that a new account had been opened by: Verizon Pen, PO BOX 165018, COLUMBUS, OH 43216.
Since I haven't changed phone service since last year, it seemed odd that there would be a new account from Verizon. (More)

Dis-Ability Quote

Colin Portnuff, a guy who uses an AAC (alternative augmentative communication) device to communicate, was recently at a conference that some guys from my company (DynaVox) also went to.
He has ALS, which is a degenerative disease of the brain. A number of our customers have ALS; I am not sure about percentages compared to other handicaps.

It is usually inspiring to hear AAC users speak about their lives, and how they have overcome various problems in an enthusiatic way and Colin is certainly not the exception to this rule. To clarify, I say, "usually", because I occasionally I do see our devices being used, or rather not being used, in people lives as well. (More)
