While cooking our breakfast on Saturday, I saw that Heather had put the potatoes on the counter, meaning that we should eat them soon, and not forget about them in their normal storage place.  I asked Jonathan how we should cook the potatoes for dinner, and he said that we should make "Chinese salad". (More)

Last month, I took Jonathan for his first dental checkup and cleaning.  He did a great job, asking lots of questions and generally having a good time.  But they did discover two huge fillings.  The regular dentist doesn't do fillings for kids, so she had us make an appointment with the pediatric dentist who works in the same office.

Noah has discovered the fun of taking out and putting in objects to a container.  He also isn't interested in crashing towers.  Instead, he likes to take them down carefully block by block.  He likes to copy us in driving cars around and the other day we were having a blast together - he'd run the car back and forth and then throw it off the table and laugh.   He's cruising the furniture more, and will walk behind a sliding object for a few steps.

Jonathan and I were drawing and coloring together downstairs.  At one point, I had written his name, and then when we were cutting things, I cut a heart out around his name.  Soon after, I went to change Noah's diaper.

March 20 - Jonathan climbed over our chain link fence all by himself.

 

March 22 - He was pretending that his cereal was "vitamins" and counting them out to himself, "It's Saturday [eat one]...it's Monday [eat one]...it's Wednesday [eat one]...it's tomorrow...." (More)

After Noah's doctor appointment, we went to the grocery store.  I had parked forward-facing to a curbed, sloped sidewalk.  On the side of the walk opposite the parking lot was a railing.  Because of the curb, I did not push the cart to the trunk of my car as I usually do.  I turned it perpendicular to the sidewalk and rested it against the railing.

We went to Florida for vacation with the Daleys for one week and the Wightmans for another week.  It was a great time.  But this leaves me behind on posting, so here we go... (More)

I try to take Jonathan's questions seriously and answer them as accurately as I can.  This morning, I could not think of a better answer than "well, the cells, they just do." (Which is not very satisfying.)

Sung at a reasonable pace, it takes about 30 seconds to sing.  I have been using it as a device for preparing Jonathan (and myself) for the end of a nursing session (usually two times through.)  One not surprising result is that Jonathan is good at singing it himself now.  His one trouble spot is switching the J and K, but other than that, he does it well and even can go rather quickly.

Jonathan: "I know why Isaac died."

Mommy [thinking she'd like to know]: "You do? "

Jonathan: "It's because his body stopped working."

Jonathan was wearing a shirt he got from Auntie E for Christmas and he looked down at his chest and said, "zero-s-h-k-zero-s-h.  Oshkosh!"  That was interesting to me because when he was first learning numerals, he called zeroes "o."  When I menioned that in this case they were letters, so they were O's, he said, no, they had this shape, so they were zeros.  It was a font thing. (one more thing to note - he was reading the letters upsidedown because he was wearing the shirt.) (More)
