I have been having lots of fun (that's the bad kind of fun, not the good kind) configuring Asterisk for my new IT job.  It has been a pretty big pain getting it to work correctly with a couple different VOIP providers as well as the landlines.

I had a good day today, figuring both how to get Teliax to forward the calls to our landline (since I can't seem to register the connection with Teliax, via SIP or IAX), as well as I figured out the problem with outbound calls using the verizon line.  It turns out my theory was correct, that Asterisk was dialing too fast and not waiting for the dialtone, so Verizon wasn't getting the first digit (sometimes).  But, adding a half second wait before dialing did the trick.

It looks like we might abandon the VOIP stuff altogether for work, that even though the cost is lower, the quality, dropped calls, etc. isn't really worth it.  At least for now, we will stick with Verizon, though using Asterisk internally to manage all of the extensions.  This way, I can focus on getting some echoes to go away that happen due to the VOIP switch inside our building, but I hear that is supposed to pretty straightforward.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between people and spammers. This post was from a machine in Italy, I believe a broadband user, though he has a lotus notes web server installed, so maybe he is at a company.

I figure if he's not trying to enhance body parts, sell drugs, get access to your bank account, or corrupt your mind, he deserves the benefit of the doubt. :)
