On April 27, we went to the Zoo with Alissa, Will, Nate, and Sam. I sang to Jonathan the "We're going to the zoo" song and he repeated, "zoo, zoo, zoo!" He also repeated "cheetah" but he growled at the bears on his own. The elephants were much larger in real life than he expected and he didn't... (More)

Jonathan has an Italian board book that Aunt Janet brought him from Italy, which I stumble through as best I can. After I read a book, he will usually turn through the pages again himself. This time, he babbled in a more singsong voice, unlike his usual talking. I really think he was trying out... (More)

Jon is spending today and tonight at the Jubilee conference downtown, praying for the conference and conferees in the prayer room. Jonathan and I went to meet him for dinner. Now before I proceed, I want to make clear that I would have been taking the bus even if we had a car, because parking... (More)

As we were cleaning up from my birthday party, Heather noticed a police car in our back alley. It turns out there were two brothers (one is a self-proclaimed starving musician) who live in Pittsburgh, but were driving a New York plated car, without headlights, circling our neighborhood at... (More)

I don't know a whole lot about the whole reality TV show craze, (I actually haven't seen a single one) but since this is a blog, I feel liberated to spout my views on the subject. There is an article in the Pittsburgh paper a couple of days ago regarding a former Pittsburgh priest, who has... (More)

Jonathan said, "book" today when he went to his bookshelf. He read one of his numbers books for quite a long time. He can now say, "bye-bye" also. The occasions when he does it are when the toilet is flushing and when his turtle turns off. He may also say "umbrella" but it is not yet refined. (More)

I finally figured out a name for my web-hosting and embedded software company. I had decided on FIRM Solutions in December, but then someone beat me to buying the domain name.It must have been so much easier to figure out company name things before the internet. I spent quite a while searching... (More)

The night we arrived (Monday) was "Christmas Eve" so we each opened our one present from "Mr. Ho" and filled the stockings for the morning. It turns out that Santa had also visted Bermuda, because we each received a souvenir ornament from Bermuda. "Christmas" morning was leisurely, as Mom had to... (More)

Jonathan has been quite consistently using the "milk" sign, sometimes with both hands! It is a fun game to sign "milk" to each other while he's nursing. One time a couple of days ago, he did not seem as happy with the game as before, and I wondered if he was trying to sign "toilet." I showed... (More)

It had always annoyed me that you couldn't use smarty commands in the stylesheet files in plog. It turns out it wasn't that hard to figure out, and the original authors had it basically done, but if you believe the comments, didn't think it worked yet. It is helpful to change... (More)

Whether you know the program as Merant, Serena or PVCS, the setup is difficult, and despite the sales department insistence that you don't need a full-time person to run their servers, I am starting to doubt it. Here are the instructions to setup a new project using the file server model... (More)

Our DSL went down and Jon called me and did a three way with Speakeasy to see what was going on. After trying a couple of things that did not work, Jon mentioned that it was raining, but not lightning. I went to the window to check things out, and I saw a Verizon guy up at the telephone pole.... I went to a dermatologist this morning to have a mole removed and a small skin lump checked out. My referring doctor said this dermatology practice is the best in Pittsburgh. However, I really am getting more and more disillusioned with medical practice as we know it. As soon as I walked in, I... (More)
