It's taken a long time and persistence, but I have now succeeded! Today I bought several gallons of oil, milk, and orange juice, and I did not bring a single bag home! (More)

One day for dinner I prepared a noodle dish from a toddler-friendly cookbook that was "toddler rated 10 out of 10." I also made asparagus as a side dish. Jonathan loves asparagus and helped me taste test it as I was preparing it. Then at dinner we had to tell him that he had to eat a couple more bites of noodles before he could have more asparagus!! (More)

I have not been consistent with the bits recently, but this morning, Jonathan let me know that it's time to get with the program! When he woke up, he sat straight up, pointed at them and said, "This!" (More)

On Wednesday, Jonathan counted his fingers on his own initiative - he held each one and said, "one, two" "one, two" "one, two..." It was very cute.

It seems that lots of people have trouble typing in keywords into search engines that result in the hits that they want. Every once in a while I have to go to the second page of results, but generally things are available on the first page. (More)

I have come to a new appreciation of that little spider. When I was a child I always thought it was a rather stupid creature not aware of its surroundings, just blindly walking into a place that was obviously not safe.

However, as I think about it now, I find that spider to be a model of perseverance, patience, sticking to its goals even through setback and hardship. What a difference a little life experience makes to my perspective!

With visitors and camping, I have not been as faithful in recording Jonathan's growth as I'd like. But here are some recent things. (More)

Jonathan likes to open the drawer where I store the Bits and take out some to look at. In order to make this an acceptable activity, I have put the retired ones in front and hidden the unseen ones in back, separated by empty file folders. This way, he is free to explore and look at, take out and put in, without messing up my organization. (More)

I was reminded of the Incredibles today by a slashdot article, and I went looking for the "Everyone's special, Dash." "That's just another way of saying nobody is." quote, and came across this guy's review of the movie. Interesting.

This morning when I went downstairs, I saw one of the baby robins out of the nest on the ledge! Later when I went by all three were in the nest. I knew it wouldn't be long. Just now I checked and the nest is empty! Now they will spend two weeks learning how to be grown up robins, and after that they will be on their own.

I had heard of memes before, hadn't paid much attention until Adrian Drury mentioned it a couple weeks ago on snurgle, and today I noticed a post on Oscar's blog inviting me to participate. (More)

I realized this morning that we didn't ever post about going to the Pasteriks a month ago or so. Jonathan had lots of fun with the animals, but what I thought was neat is that he figured out how to climb up the ladder to go down the slide. (More)

At my last job, I discovered that after I gradually developed some pain in my shoulders that my desk needed to be raised. When I got to DynaVox, I raised my chair and desk approximately 4 inches.
My monitor is raised an additional 4 inches, based on the advice of some ergonomic web site that said the top of the viewable monitor should be even with your eyes. (More)

After much disturbing of the poor robins, I have taken off the paneling over the window and have a lovely view of the nest. It is at a rather awkward angle for the camera, but I can still get some shots. (More)
