I just noticed on SpamCop that since August I have received 1.5 bytes/second of spam. And I get significantly less spam than most people I know. What a waste of time. (More)

I have been evaluating different version control programs for my company for the last month or two. My current evaluation is that all of them are broken, although I hope to discover a good solution someday soon. Serena's Version Manager (PVCS) I have spent a lot of time with Version... (More)

A couple guys here at work have been working on some puzzles. They didn't like my solution to the 3rd puzzle, as they wanted it to be more math base and not like programming. Here are the puzzles: Assume: a and b are positive integers. ( I think this condition only matters for the third... (More)

Speakeasy is my DSL provider. Snurgle.org also uses them, so that is how I heard about them. We have been using them for a year or so, and the ten times or so that I had to open a customer support ticket, it has gone quite well, and fairly fast response time (within a couple of days at the... I have been reading a serious of articles by Bob Kauflin, written for Crosswalk.com . I don't agree entirely, and I think he is primarily focused on younger people, those who like so-called "praise" songs, and don't like hymns, so if you do not understand that camp, you might not get as much... I had some boards made by Imagineering , and they are excellent. Currently, they have a $100 for 10 board special, and the second order is free, so I saved a ton of money by not using Advanced Circuits who we usually use. 4pcb messed up a board I sent to them last time, where their mask... (More)

Ivan came through yesterday, pouring rain for 24 hours, and flooding many parts of Pittsburgh. But today - wow! It's sunny and cool and gorgeous. I went shopping in the morning (Fridays are shopping day, but it was pouring) and I just couldn't help a huge smile as I walked to Foodland. It was... (More)

Ever notice how it now takes a year for Acrobat Reader to load up? You can speed it up about 20x or so, by moving the plugins you don't use out of the "startup" folder. If you put the files into the "optional" folder, I believe it will still be able to find them when you want to use them, and... (More)

" By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk... (More)

Jonathan can now climb up me to a standing position! He starts by pushing on my knees, and then grabs my hands. At first I didn't know if it counted, because I didn't know how much I was contributing. But I think he really is doing it. (More)

My mother-in-law complained that in the Lord of the Rings, they use blank stares to portray goodness. Apparently, this is not a new trend, as in this movie (made in 1977), Jesus (except for when he is angry) does not ever have an expression on his face. Sometimes when he is asked questions or... The bike ride was tough, and my knees hurt a lot, but I made it the whole way. I decided not to do the "century" ride, 100 miles in the first day, but just did 82 miles the first day, and 68 miles the second day. I had friends that biked also, but mostly, some biked faster, and some biked... (More)

I just got back from the courthouse. The judge upheld all charges. The prosecution added a fourth charge as well, that I didn't really understand -- It was a little hard to hear everything. There is an additional charge of endangering the welfare of a minor, I think having to do with... (More)

I had a revelation today. While we felt very supported back in November, we have recently been more feeling on our own. Certainly, people want to care for us, and probably don't know how to do that. But, I think the bigger issue is that most people we know do not agree with our decisions about... (More)

We went to the CORE ceremony today. The ceremony was for donors and recipients of organ donations from 2002. Isaac's heart valves were collected and frozen for future use. They have not yet been transplanted into anyone yet, but I guess they can be stored for a couple years and they will still... (More)
