Last week (actually within the span of three days) four people asked me if I am pregnant.  Really, you ask?  Yes, really, they did.  One of them was Jonathan, whom you have read has been praying fervently for a little sister, and has not yet learned that you don't ask women that (unless, as Dave Barry says, you can actually see the baby coming out.)  My answer was "not that I know of."

I had bought a box with two tests at Christmas time to see if there was any Christmas present announcement to be made to the family (it was negative then.)  The second one was sitting there in the bathroom and Monday morning, I thought, well, I'll just take it so that I can tell people for sure that I'm not.  However, when I looked at the little window after two minutes, what should I see but a positive result!  I could hardly believe it.

So Noah and I rushed back upstairs to bring the news to Daddy and Jonathan, who of course were very excited.

Expected arrival is sometime in October.  This could potentially be a nice birthday present for Mommy, or even a very special 90th birthday present for Great Grandpa Daley.  Jonathan will be nearly five and Noah will be a couple of months shy of two and a half.

I really was not expecting this (cycles had not yet returned due to nursing) but it does explain some things over the last few weeks.  Noticeable drop in milk supply, slight aversion to pancakes, not feeling perfectly up to par (though I thought I just had what's going around), Jon beating me at Scrabble...

We are all thrilled (well, Noah's rather clueless at the moment) and looking forward to meeting this new little one, boy or girl!

Wow, congratulations! That's really nice spacing! I think I had been wondering when the next was going to come, but of course wasn't going to ask :-).

Oh, and I totally didn't read the title of the post, so I got to the second paragraph then looked at the title. I initially thought the post was just about how everyone keeps asking you :-).

Wow, three little ones at Daley Family Christmas - we'll have to rent a hall soon. :)

Don't forget a couple of VIA's (Very Important Aunts)!

Hmmm, Jon beating you in Scrabble...that's a critical sign. Have to pit you against Stephan sometime....

Congrats!

Name suggestions anyone?

Boy: Hezekiah Girl: Hezekiah

I think big brother Noah already has claim to Hezekiah.

I had thought of the name Peter yesterday (I don't know why). Before Noah was born, I had been trying to come up with a "K" name because the Daley's already had H, I & J, but then they jumped to N, so I guess I don't need to keep an alphabetical order going.

Yes, I will be guessing that baby Daley will be a boy. (Sorry Jonathan) Isn't there some medical evidence to support that if you have already had several children of the same sex, you are more likely to have that same sex again?

Just for fun, I decided to look at the sex distribution on Heather's side back four generations. Of course we all know how important the male line is for determining sex, but I'm not convinced the data mean anything anyway, so Jon's side is left as an exercise for the reader.

Oops, I meant five generations, and the last one runs off the edge of the page.... It's a pretty even distribution, with a slight bias towards girls, just as one might expect: 72 girls, 67 boys, 3 unknown.

Yea! What fantastic news! Congrats!!

Please note that I have corrected the post to reflect that Grandpa Daley will be 90 this year.

Ah, yes, other October birthdays. I'll have plenty of chances to make someone I know happy. (:

DSTB - not only is there H, I, J, but the children's middle names are C, D. So we were trying to think of a name K.E. but it just wasn't working for a boy. And any girl name would have spelling trouble. So we gave up on that, but later I realized that N.H. does follow the pattern, only skipping down the alphabet.

I like Noelle for a girl name, but Barbara has already pointed out that it would be hard having a Noah and a Noelle in the same household (she had a Jon and a Josh so she knows.) And really, that name is best for a December birthday anyway.

People are welcome to make suggestions, but keep in mind that we don't do too much thinking ahead of time, preferring to meet the baby before finding his/her name.

Congratulations!

re: naming suggestions, what about the name of one of the grandmothers/great-grandmothers? Catherine was the name of both of my grandmothers, which made it an easy choice.

Btw, I kept meaning to reply to your email but never had time. But yes, having a baby to hold on Christmas this year was the best thing ever. :-) I can't believe she's three months old already!

That is wonderful news! :) if not before then me and lisa will have to come visit when the baby comes.
