Here's a quick update. Grace has some virus that she's fighting off and she gave it to me, too. In medical news, she had a checkup and echocardiogram on Tuesday and all that looks good. So far we haven't observed anything noticeable, either good or bad. She got fitted for a hearing aid, and... (More)

Our week has been somewhat full, with a few extra church services, including Maundy Thursday with handbells, which I didn't find out until the end of the service that it wasn't recorded, and I meant to record it during rehearsal, but I forgot.  But, it went well, despite Jeremiah being... (More)

As far as we know, the surgery went well. He took two biopsies, one in front of the eardrum and one behind. There was not much fluid, so he did not put in a tube. We will get results in several days. The bone marrow aspirate also apparently went well, and that also takes about a week to get all... (More)

Today is Day +365. One year ago, this is where we were: Today, Faith is recovered enough to participate in On Belay's Teen Winter Outdoor Adventure (pictures may come later, since she is there as I type.) Grace had her first post-chemo haircut (just bangs) the other day.... (More)

Sorry we left you hanging about Grace's recent appointments. Here are some things to be thankful for about Grace. She did really well during her audiology appointment. It took a long time, but she followed all the directions and was cooperative as usual. She does still have some hearing loss in... (More)

Next week is Grace's third birthday, for which we are exceptionally grateful. I know that there are a lot of people out there who love Grace and would probably like to do something for her birthday.  She has all the physical things she could need or want, so prayers would be the number... (More)

Jon and Grace just got back from a very long clinic visit at Darmouth.  Jon did not have time to tell me much, since he had to catch up on work. Grace's creatinine level was high, so they are concerned about her kidney function.  They double-checked that number and it was still... (More)

Heather is better at writing the updates than I am, though I've been intending to write a few since we've been back in the hospital. She has been doing quite well the last few days and much more cheery.  Nothing like a colonoscopy to cheer you up I guess.  I hadn't been paying... (More)

When Jon and Grace got back from Dartmouth, Jon asked me to take her temperature.  He could feel that she was hot, but the thermometer they used at Dartmouth did not register a fever (it was the kind that you hold a centimeter away from the forehead.)  My initial armpit reading was... (More)

This is the day the doctors consider the transplant to be successful.  This doesn't mean that she's not still at risk for a bunch of things. But it does mean that Faith's cells are firmly established in her system and doing their job! (More)

I've been meaning to write an update; I've even gotten started on one (labelled day +90: it's now day +97.) Overall, things have been going well, Grace's numbers coming back satisfactorily. But then she got a cold.  Just runny nose and sneezing.  But after her nap, she had a mild... (More)

As they say, no news is good news.  Not much exciting has been going on lately.  Grace is eating a fairly regular diet at meals, which has always been pretty small.  Yesterday, she drank a lot, which hasn't been common for her, so we give her 600ml of water via her NG tube, 50ml... (More)

We are headed home on Monday!   Grace will still have at least one clinic visit a week and depending on the labs that week, might have a second appointment, but we decided that for the sake of our entire family, we need to be home and it is worth driving back and forth as needed.... (More)

This includes anesthesia and intubation and all that goes along with that. Please pray for her surgery and for the results. Thank you. An "aspirate" in this context means removing a small amount (7 ml in Grace's case usually) of the bone marrow fluid and a biopsy is removing a small chunk of... (More)

Grace did well her first night. I had a harder time because it was like having a young baby - changing diapers in the night; she did go on the potty. Jon and the older girls dropped Grace and me off at the clinic on their way home. Grace was not happy to be stuck in a clinic room. First... (More)
