I have been evaluating different version control programs for my company for the last month or two. My current evaluation is that all of them are broken, although I hope to discover a good solution someday soon. Serena's Version Manager (PVCS) I have spent a lot of time with Version... (More)

On all the windows machine I use, I have auto-completion turned on for the dos prompt. Apparently, I must have gotten that behavior from TweakUI , and since I always install it on a new machine, I thought it was on by default, but apparently not.If you don't have TweakUI, you can edit the... (More)

I signed up with Citibank/Mastercard my freshman year in college. I used to sign up for stuff on campus quite often, as they would give me various free things, t-shirts, radios, $100 gift certificates, etc. I also felt somewhat sorry for the vendors, as their income was $1 every time they got... I have been reading a serious of articles by Bob Kauflin, written for Crosswalk.com . I don't agree entirely, and I think he is primarily focused on younger people, those who like so-called "praise" songs, and don't like hymns, so if you do not understand that camp, you might not get as much... Ivan came through yesterday, pouring rain for 24 hours, and flooding many parts of Pittsburgh. But today - wow! It's sunny and cool and gorgeous. I went shopping in the morning (Fridays are shopping day, but it was pouring) and I just couldn't help a huge smile as I walked to Foodland. It was... (More)

Ok, so I wrote the previous post after this happened, but I had been meaning to write it before. Jonathan has always been fascinated with lights. Yesterday, I held him up to the light in our bedroom and gave him the cord and showed him how to pull it so the light would turn on and off. This... (More)

It is somewhat humorous I guess, that all this takes so long and that the judges and attornies (and coroner) schedule all these meetings, get paid a ton per hour, and then don't bother to show up (or subpeona the witness, or let the interested parties know when things are happening, etc). There... (More)

Wake up at 3AM because you can't sleep. Notice that the shower has not drained from the day before. Plunge the tub to force the water through the slow drain. Eat breakfast and decide that now is as good a time as any. Start ripping up the floor at 4:30AM. Stop to go to church (try to... (More)

I just discovered last night that if you type in more than one word into the address bar, FireFox assumes you are doing a google search, and even better, does the "I'm feeling lucky" feature of google. So, if you type Jon Daley into firefox's address bar, it goes to my home page.... (More)

Ever notice how it now takes a year for Acrobat Reader to load up? You can speed it up about 20x or so, by moving the plugins you don't use out of the "startup" folder. If you put the files into the "optional" folder, I believe it will still be able to find them when you want to use them, and... (More)

Jonathan must have been reading about the Alloways in the newsletter, as he wanted to find out about the London Bridge and fell over twice today. Once with a face plant off of the couch, and another time rolled off of the bed. They were somewhat traumatic, and it seemed that he was crying... (More)

Some people have gotten together and collected stories, advice and reference material for midwives (and really anyone) who might be involved in a lawsuit. The book is available online , but you can buy a paper copy if you would like. I questioned the statement, "Interestingly, there are... (More)

For a while he has been "almost there." Saturday, we went to William Kuhns' 4th birthday party, and the balloons were enticing! The moms there agreed that you could really call it crawling - the cross-pattern, moving forward. Definitely still unpolished and not very smooth... (More)

I just got back from the courthouse. The judge upheld all charges. The prosecution added a fourth charge as well, that I didn't really understand -- It was a little hard to hear everything. There is an additional charge of endangering the welfare of a minor, I think having to do with... (More)

Just went through all of Jonathan's pictures the other day and am amazed at how much he has changed. I said at first that I thought he didn't look like Isaac at all. Now I am starting to see more similarities. I always did think Isaac looked more like a three month old than a newborn, and I... (More)
