Jonathan: "I know why Isaac died."

Mommy [thinking she'd like to know]: "You do? "

Jonathan: "It's because his body stopped working."

Directly after the above:

Jonathan: "If Jesus didn't die on the cross..."

Mommy thinks: we'd still be dead in our sins...we wouldn't be reconciled to God...

Jonathan: "...then he could die on the ground."

It was fun having Daddy home on Wednesday, and Jonathan enjoyed helping him work on the furnace.  Thursday, however, it was time for Pittsburgh to get back to work, so Daddy did, too.  Jonathan cut is finger (minor but requiring a bandaid) and when we got downstairs, he cried, "Where is Daddy?  I really don't like it when Daddy's not here!"

Jonathan was jumping on the bed singing/yelling, "Holiness!  God!  Hi-ho the derry-o, You are God and You are good!"

This evening, I was resting on the couch with a sleeping Noah on my chest and Jonathan went downstairs, brought the packbasket of blankets up and unloaded the contents on the floor in front of me.  Then he brought the packbasket back downstairs, unloaded the dryer into it, carried it back upstairs, and up again to our room.  He then proceeded to put away the laundry, making sure to match up the socks. ("Daddy's socks are really long.  He has big feet.  My feet are small, see?")  He asked me to finish it halfway through, but I was thoroughly delighted with this show of cheerful helping and independence.

In my walk in Loerroch the other day I saw a photo studio with lots of cute kid and mother/baby pictures on display. One caught my eye of a mother lying down and the crown of her head towards the camera. It was in black and white except for the little red shoes held carefully on her chest. It had nice composition and looked nice until I realized "Why isn't her baby in the picture?" Then it became beautiful.
