Tuesday, we all went to the Midwife Center for our first appointment. Nancy is the midwife with whom I had my last appointment during Isaac's pregnancy. She said she was surprised to see us, but happy that we did choose the Center. We had a good conversation about the various issues - what I mean is, she is happy to provide us care, and we are happy to receive care from the midwives at the Center. One thing to pray about is that she does have to check with her doctor and the district attorney just to double check that there is no conflict of interest for her to provide care for us. This is a slight concern because she will be called to testify in Judy's trial since she was the last one to examine me before I switched to Judy's care.
All the rest of the appointment went well. She was happy with my explanation of my due date calculation and did not think an ultrasound would be called for. When she felt the fundal height she said, "that feels like 19 weeks" which exactly corresponds to my calculations. The baby's heart was strong, she had no trouble finding it with the fetoscope despite having reservations about it before hand (not about using the scope, just about whether she'd find the heartbeat.)
All other numbers and examinations were good and healthy. My blood pressure was a bit high for me (I usually have low blood pressure during pregnancy) but it is true that I was a little nervous.
They don't do bloodwork in the Center anymore, so I'll have to go to the lab for that.
So we have a healthy baby and a healthy mommy. My confidence in the quality of care by the midwives is ever increasing. Yes, they have to follow certain rules that have been established by the doctors, but their attitudes towards mothers, babies, birth, and families lines up much more with mine than I originally thought and I am happy.

I'm glad everything thing went at your appointment and everyone is healthy! I was pretty nervous at my first appointment yesterday too, especially since I didn't know the doctor's/nurses and it was a new place. But, I'm glad you got through it well and are feeling confident about your choice!
So glad you're confident in your care and feeling comfortable. Hopefully, your nervousness about the appointments will lessen as time goes on, and you'll come to really look forward to them.
I still can't believe you're 19 weeks already! I want to sign up for the no-period-between-babies-skip-the-first-trimester sort of pregnancy!
Hi Heather! Congratulations and best wishes with your pregnancy. - Katie Yoder Wade
