That statement by Jonathan is what I woke up to from my nap this afternoon. It has worked before - to let him play quietly by himself while I take my nap. But today, well, he just tried to be a little more independent than he's truly capable of.
He crawled up onto the bed and stood up next to me. "What's dripping everywhere?" I asked groggily, as I turned over to look at him. Then I noticed that he was only wearing a shirt. Oh no. "I'll show you, Mommy."
He led me down the hall, where I saw his diaper (dry and clean) on the floor. "It dripped on my underwear." Ah, new development. He wanted to wear his underwear (which we had clearly explained to him he must wear while he's awake until he learns - now I guess we have to say he must wear them when I'm awake also) so in addition to getting new socks (which is what he was doing last I knew) he also got himself some underwear.
We proceeded upstairs and I saw the trouble. He had stuffed the rest of the toilet paper from the roll into the toilet and then flushed it. This caused the toilet to overflow, thus "it's dripping everywhere."
His pants were dry in a pile on the floor, and I think his underwear and socks had been dry until the toilet water flowed on them. So I picked out what I could and plunged it, which solved that problem. Then I sopped up the water from the floor with three towels and I think that's all I can do for now, though I do see new water spots formed on the ceiling tiles below.
Ah, adventures. Maybe it's a good thing our dinner plans were cancelled. I think I need to stay home.
