When I told Jonathan about Dad-o's conference in New York, he asked, "Where New York?" So I showed him New York on his US puzzle. While we were there, he showed me New Hampshire and Massachusetts, entirely on his own initiative.
The next day, he picked up a piece from the puzzle and ran into the kitchen to show Daddy, "This is New York!" And he was right.
The other day Jonathan took Oklahoma and Idaho from the puzzle and held them in his hands like guns. Then he said, "zookeepers." My only theory is that he heard our five year old friend talking about bazookas and that was the closest word he could associate with it (they both have "zoo" in them.)
Jonathan is thrilled with hiding, himself and things. The catch is, for him it's really much more fun if he actually knows where the item is. One time, after finding baby Joseph under the couch for the 20th time, I asked him if he could find another hiding place while I didn't look. Daddy volunteered to help him, and I went into the other room. When I came back, Jonathan just couldn't resist and immediately exclaimed, "Baby Jopus in the microwave!"
Jonathan has not really expressed much understanding/interest in being a big brother, but he has enjoyed playing with the baby Joseph doll. One recent development is "Baby Jopus need milk." A particularly hilarious time when Joseph needed to nurse was also when he needed to hold Mommy's mole! I have thought before that the holding of the moles was an integral part of nursing for Jonathan, but this just confirmed it. (: The other night, we had our first tandem nursing practice session, with Jonathan on one side and baby Joseph on the other side. Will we name the new baby Joseph if he is a boy? Who knows, but it might be a little confusing...
Speaking of that, Jonathan is in favor of Nehemiah for a boy name. He says it very well.
New phrases: While being under a blanket, and Mommy or Daddy says, "oh what a nice blanket I think I'll lie down," Jonathan says "Don't lean on me."
Now when he asks where something went, he said, "Where ... went go?" He is still figuring out where to say went and where to say go. It is an interesting question when you're learning by hearing. Often if someone says, "Where did the toucan go?" Someone will reply, "I don't know where it went."
This afternoon Jonathan was playing with the cookie cutters, which have their own bucket. He had dumped them on the floor and was playing with the bucket. I was in the kitchen and I heard him say, "Just like a stool." Sure enough, he was sitting on the couch with his feet on the sideways bucket.
