Jonathan got out the large United States puzzle yesterday and had fun playing with the pieces. He would pick up one and I'd tell him what it was. Then he dumped the whole thing out and he would try to put them in.
It's a little hard because the pieces don't stay in their places unless all the surrounding pieces are in. But he did manage to put Massachusetts/Connecticut/RhodeIsland ("Massatusets") in the right place, and he put Vermont/NewHampshire ("New Hamper") in the right place, only 90 degrees rotated.

Later in the day, he spotted our cup of fancy pencils (left over from my pencil collecting days) and wanted to play with the Christmas tree one. At some point, while playing with the pencil, he said, "Pencil-vania" !

"Pencil-vania," "forewing/five-wing" -- I love this kid's sense of humor, and even more, the way his brain works.

Cute! Our Maya (she'll be three this month) has loved her US map puzzle since before she was two. She loves hear us tell her about each state, and who we know that lives there. She can even put the obvious ones in the right place! (Texas, California, Michigan, Alaska, Hawaii, Florida...=) I've popped in the read your blog from time to time since meeting you last April. Thought I might de-lurk and make myself known. (Jason's wife, CMU IV staff)
