Jonathan was a thumbsucker since before he was born. We did nothing to discourage it, except that I would often offer to nurse.
Somewhere around 12 or 13 months, I mentioned to Jon that he wasn't sucking his thumb any more. After that, I did notice him doing it in his sleep sometimes. Now, he has completely stopped. The other day, when he was sleeping, he accidentally found his thumb with his mouth, and immediately spit it out again.
