Last night we had a spectacular and very close thunderstorm roll though. The lightning actually struck a transformer down the street, cutting our power at around 10:30.
We were in bed, but Jon got up to turn off the computers - the UPS only lasts a few minutes with two computers and a monitor hooked up to it.

Jon was skeptical about our power returning anytime soon, and I had visions of trying to keep the fridge shut as much as possible. But as soon as the storm passed, we heard a truck come and so we got up to watch the guys looking for the blown transformer with flashlights. A couple hours later, I woke up to go to the bathroom, and they were working on it. We were woken up at 2:30 to the power returning. Only four hours out with a blown transformer in the middle of the night. Not too bad.

By the way, Jonathan had just fallen asleep right before the peak of the storm hit, and he startled a few times, but did not wake up.
