There have been a number of things we wanted to work better on the Flying Junior, but mostly because it is hard to find a sailboat store in Pittsburgh, we hadn't gotten around to it.The wind spinner is fairly old, and after the capsize, didn't spin as well as it used to, and in the process of... I happened to check my logs this evening and discovered that a spammer had tried to send one of my clients a few emails over the weekend. Only 100,000 or so. He was being blocked via an RBL, but that still takes up resources, so I manually blocked his IP address, as well as ran a ping -f -s... (More)

I wrote a random signature generator for Pine, my email client. It worked great for a number of years, but with a recent upgrade of Pine, it started having trouble a couple of times a day, where the signature would be correctly rotated, but Pine would hang prior to sending the message, and would... On April 27, we went to the Zoo with Alissa, Will, Nate, and Sam. I sang to Jonathan the "We're going to the zoo" song and he repeated, "zoo, zoo, zoo!" He also repeated "cheetah" but he growled at the bears on his own. The elephants were much larger in real life than he expected and he didn't... (More)

On Saturday while we were hanging around on CMU campus for Carnival, Jonathan signed "Daddy." We were at the top of the hill by the tennis courts, talking to a friend, and our kids were playing down at the bottom of the hill. I saw Jonathan signing for Daddy, and he was thrilled to answer the... (More)

He seems to have at least one new word a day now. Sometime before March 24, he said "boots." On March 24 he signed "cheese" and drank some water from a small bathroom cup by himself without crushing the cup to a pulp and without spilling very much. He says water that sounds like "why." Other... (More)

Friday evening, Jonathan was cranky, he fell asleep early, and he felt hot. I wondered if it might be an ear infection because his right ear had been squeaking when he nursed. In the middle of the night, I remembered that fever is a common reaction to the MMR vaccine, usually occuring 7-12 days... (More)

I don't know a whole lot about the whole reality TV show craze, (I actually haven't seen a single one) but since this is a blog, I feel liberated to spout my views on the subject. There is an article in the Pittsburgh paper a couple of days ago regarding a former Pittsburgh priest, who has... (More)
