At my last job, I discovered that after I gradually developed some pain in my shoulders that my desk needed to be raised. When I got to DynaVox, I raised my chair and desk approximately 4 inches. My monitor is raised an additional 4 inches, based on the advice of some ergonomic web site that... (More)

After much disturbing of the poor robins, I have taken off the paneling over the window and have a lovely view of the nest. It is at a rather awkward angle for the camera, but I can still get some shots. I have a pillowcase suspended from the ceiling about 8 inches from the window, so that our... (More)

I wrote a random signature generator for Pine, my email client. It worked great for a number of years, but with a recent upgrade of Pine, it started having trouble a couple of times a day, where the signature would be correctly rotated, but Pine would hang prior to sending the message, and would... It is so cool to watch things grow. Last Wednesday, May 12, I got all our pots together with new dirt and planted hot peppers, radishes, lettuce and spinach. We also have three cherry tomato plants generously donated by a friend. The radishes and lettuce were already coming up by the time we... (More)

Sometimes it's hard to tell exactly when he says something, or to remember to write it down. So I've compiled a list of the words Jonathan can say. Maybe I'll even post comments as he adds words. apple ball bits blind (as in window) boo (as in jumping around a corner to surprise... (More)

April 8 - "three" So he can count "one, two, three" now, but often will still stop at two. April 10 - "grass" April 13 - "tea" He can whisper now, and it's cute. Also, "yecch" for dirt and lichen. Yesterday, April 14, was a victory in the middle of the "no" phase. He says and signs "yes!" (More)

We have a neighbor a few doors down who is almost the same age as Jonathan. Today Justin and his mom and Jonathan and I were outside playing at the same time. Justin has a little Power Wheels vehicle that is designed for kids under three. It has one button to push on the handlebars and it can... (More)

Jon has me working on some stuff for Lime Daley so he has time for his other projects. For the most part, changing settings has a user-friendly interface that I can do pretty easily. However, there are some code things "in the background." Today, I modified some of the code and it worked! I... (More)

On March 31, Jonathan was playing with his little people. He put a girl on one of the circus cars so that she was lying down, said, "night night" and put his head down on the coffee table. On April 3, all three of us were downstairs together while Jonathan was taking a bath. It was time to get... (More)

In situations where it's fun to count down (jumping, etc.) Jonathan will now say, "one... two..." He doesn't seem to want to say three, but the first two are very clear. We were playing outside today, on our furniture cart, riding it down the very gentle incline of our "yard." When I pushed off,... (More)

Rhythm is such a funny word I had to look it up to double check the spelling. Anyway, Jonathan has shown advancement in doing puzzles, having patience to turn the piece more than in the past. Today, he successfully put the triangle and square pieces in his shape sorter, where before he only... (More)

I can now definitively say that Jonathan is running. At the Jubilee conference Sunday morning, there were long hallways to explore and he ran down them. It's a very cute toddler run, but it's definitely a run. And he swings his arms in a nice cross-pattern. (More)

Jon is spending today and tonight at the Jubilee conference downtown, praying for the conference and conferees in the prayer room. Jonathan and I went to meet him for dinner. Now before I proceed, I want to make clear that I would have been taking the bus even if we had a car, because parking... (More)

I have not been too interested in paintings or going to art museums (except I did always like to see the Tiffany glass work.) I will admit that I had my doubts about whether Jonathan would like the Van Gogh bits, simply because I had no appreciation for them myself. But I determined to show them... (More)
