At my last job, I discovered that after I gradually developed some pain in my shoulders that my desk needed to be raised. When I got to DynaVox, I raised my chair and desk approximately 4 inches.
My monitor is raised an additional 4 inches, based on the advice of some ergonomic web site that said the top of the viewable monitor should be even with your eyes. That worked well for three years, but the last couple of weeks I have had some more pain in my left shoulder.
I realized the other day that I have been doing a lot of Linux/command line work lately, and thus I spend the majority of the day looking at the bottom of the screen.
I raised the monitor another 4 inches, which might be a little too tall, but it is a little hard finding sturdy boxes that are the right size. It feels better, though it is a little hard to tell after just an hour or so. It does help me to sit up straighter too, which is good.
