I went to a dermatologist this morning to have a mole removed and a small skin lump checked out. My referring doctor said this dermatology practice is the best in Pittsburgh. However, I really am getting more and more disillusioned with medical practice as we know it. As soon as I walked in, I... (More)

I have been evaluating different version control programs for my company for the last month or two. My current evaluation is that all of them are broken, although I hope to discover a good solution someday soon. Serena's Version Manager (PVCS) I have spent a lot of time with Version... (More)

I signed up with Citibank/Mastercard my freshman year in college. I used to sign up for stuff on campus quite often, as they would give me various free things, t-shirts, radios, $100 gift certificates, etc. I also felt somewhat sorry for the vendors, as their income was $1 every time they got... Charles Finney isn't all that popular at my church , so hopefully I don't get kicked out for reading this (:, but I finally got around to starting to read Lecture Notes on Theology by Finney this morning, when I woke up early due to a cold. I have only read the first couple of pages, but... (More)

It is somewhat humorous I guess, that all this takes so long and that the judges and attornies (and coroner) schedule all these meetings, get paid a ton per hour, and then don't bother to show up (or subpeona the witness, or let the interested parties know when things are happening, etc). There... (More)

This will be short because I really don't have time to type up the whole adventure (maybe Mom can pry it out of me before the next newsletter!) We went with Alissa, Will, and Nate. Jonathan's favorite parts were the fish and the llama. My favorite parts were the nursing gorilla and the sea... (More)

" By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk... (More)

The Graduate Christian Fellowship at Carnegie-Mellon University has a group that meets weekly for discussion of various articles. I rarely make it to the discussion, but this week's topic was David Brooks's articles on Patio Man and the "Sprawl People" . I was asked for a summary of... (More)

For a while he has been "almost there." Saturday, we went to William Kuhns' 4th birthday party, and the balloons were enticing! The moms there agreed that you could really call it crawling - the cross-pattern, moving forward. Definitely still unpolished and not very smooth... (More)

I thought I would be writing this post to say how great Lingo is, and how you should all sign up for their service. They answer their phone within a couple rings, no matter when I called, and sounded like they would be able to fix any technical problems I had. However, after spending hours on... (More)

I had a revelation today. While we felt very supported back in November, we have recently been more feeling on our own. Certainly, people want to care for us, and probably don't know how to do that. But, I think the bigger issue is that most people we know do not agree with our decisions about... (More)

Scott Hansma originally wrote a plugin for Eudora in 1997. When he graduated, he asked if I wanted to take over control of the source, as he wasn't interested in working on it any more. I said that I was, and I added a couple features, but never got them up to release quality. Now, in 2003,... (More)

We went to the CORE ceremony today. The ceremony was for donors and recipients of organ donations from 2002. Isaac's heart valves were collected and frozen for future use. They have not yet been transplanted into anyone yet, but I guess they can be stored for a couple years and they will still... (More)
