I don't like this quiz... it insulted me by calling be a "liberal".

Okay, so this is a little weird, but:

NASB - New American Standard Bible 60%
NWT - New World Translation 55%
NRSV - New Revised Standard Version 45%
KJV - King James Version 40%
CEV - Contemporary English Version 15%

I wonder a bit about their selection of Bibles, since I don't read any of these on a regular basis, and in fact I don't even know what the CEV is. And I'm a little worried about the high score of the NWT -- next thing you know I'll be overcome by an urge to knock on people's doors on a Saturday morning.

I was the NASB and I was shocked;) I thought for sure I'd be the King James girl:)

Um, I don't see how those questions relate to the translation of the Bible. I got the same rating as Jon but with different percentages.

NASB - 45%
NWT - 40%
KJV - 20%
NRSV - 20%
CEV - 15%

What do the low percentages mean? That I don't follow the Bible? Maybe it's because I said I like to try new things even at great risk. I think they meant spiritual risk and I'm willing to take personal risk. In any case, I don't get it even if they did call me intelligent.

I think it's just plain weird, not related to the Bible at all, but to how people perceive different translations/paraphrases versus certain personality traits. Since the percentages don't add up to 100, I don't know what to make of them at all.

From the site Jon linked to (Talking Out of Turn), I found that if you fudge your answers you can get this: "You scored as NWT - New World Translation. You are narrowminded, foolish, and stubborn. You will not look at anything objectively, but rather will approach a subject and interpret it according to your own ulterior motives while ignoring the facts. You care for nothing but to infest others with your selfish agenda. You are a downright, no-good liberal." I had thought maybe the NWT was included because the creator of the quiz was a Jehovah's Witness, but seeing this, maybe he's an ex-JW. Who can't add. :)

I poked around the site and took some other quizzes and they all didn't add up to 100%. I think they tag this or that response as falling in this or that category and the results are the percentage that your answers matched with the responses tagged with that category. BTW, did you know there's a touch of the sadist in me? Not sure how I scored those points. I can hear Jon thinking "there go my mother and sister-in-law over-analyzing things again . . ." :)

I assumed the percentages more stood on their own - like I match up with 75% of the points of the NASB, and 40% of the KJV, and perhaps 30 or 35 percent is shared between the two.

I hadn't looked at it all that much, but it is interesting that NIV isn't mentioned in any of your scores - seems like that would be a common one. I take it that NWT is the Jehovah's Witness's new translation - I hadn't heard of it before, though I know they wrote their own at some point since they didn't like some of the verses in the KJV.

Peter: some people don't consider being called "liberal" an insult...

It does seem like he is either an ex-Jehovah's Witness, or someone with similar sentiments.

Janet - be glad you don't know what the CEV is. It goes something like this: While traveling to Jerusalem one day, Jesus said to his posse, "Hey dudes - let's go heal some sick chicks. Word".

I know (that "some people don't consider being called 'liberal' an insult), but if you read the context (above in Linda's comment) it's clearly insulting. I was half-joking anyway, since I've always thought of myself as "conservative" but can no longer blindly agree with the "conservative" political agenda.

I didn't even have to fudge the results to be insulted. That's what I get for fooling around on the net instead of writing the last thank you card for today!
