Grace has had a fun birthday overall, with balloons and presents and blowing out the candles.
But tonight, during her line flush, the white side busted a hole through, up above the clamp, near the Y . We did our best with a paper clip clamp, but Jon took Grace to the fire station to put on an umbilical cord clamp.
That worked nicely, but her doctors want her on antibiotics right away in case it got contaminated. So Jon and Grace are headed to Dartmouth now (10pm.) They will also be taking the whole line out either tonight or tomorrow morning. That exciting milestone was scheduled for two weeks from now, but she gets it early for her birthday.
Please pray for safe travel and no infections and a successful procedure.

Happy birthday, Grace!!!! Praying that everything is uneventful with removing her line, and the trip up. How long do they expect to stay once it's out?
Praying!
I'm glad she had a fun birthday before this happened.
Does the line stay out permanently then, or does she get a new one?
The line will stay out. I'm guessing they won't stay much more than a few hours after, but you never know with "hospital time."
Praying for successful outcome and safe in and out trip to the hospital
Morning update from Jon: Dartmouth ER is not good. It took hours to get around to the blood draw and he had to fight with them to use her other lumen instead of
poking her for an IV. They seem to forget they are there and come through her room to go to the bathroom and get supplies. The beeping is constant. They were neither admitting her nor letting them leave to go to David's House for the night. There is not good communication with Boston. Jon is exhausted and grumpy. I encouraged him to call the Dartmouth oncology team, so hopefully that will move things along towards admission, even if they can't schedule a surgery right away. Also, Grace should probably not eat anything until the surgery, but if course no one has said anything about that yet.
Another update:
Just as Jon called the on call oncology doctor, the ER was paging him. So they are starting to move things along. Grace is awake now and they are doing stickers. They will try to get her in as soon as possible, and the will have to put in an IV anyway, in case they need to do anything as or after the line is removed.
Line removal surgery is scheduled for noon.
Praying for both of them, and for you sitting at home... waiting. That is Tough.
