5/17 - "I leaved... I leaved... I left it a little bit open."
Whenever someone says that he is a big boy, Jonathan says, "No, I'm not a big boy, I'm a little boy!" Specific instances include talking about the little bed that is now on the floor next to our big bed, and in the store when he wanted to try on some baby shoes.
He can now ride his tricycle for real, pedaling and steering included!
He can take pens apart and put them back together. He likes to write with just the ink part.
I find it interesting that Jonathan pronounces "iron" the way it's spelled (i-ron), instead of the way we say it (i-ern.)
He and Daddy went for a walk on Saturday while I took a nap. When Jon told him street names, he made comments that seemed relevant to him. When they got to Carroll, he thought it might be a Spanish word.
He's been asking me to read books in other languages, including
Abran a Los Patitos, which is
Make Way For Ducklings in Spanish. He also likes to listen to the
Sing Along, Dance Along CDs from
Hippo.
When we got an answering machine message in some kind of Slavic language, our first guess was German (though revised upon subsequent hearings) and Jonathan asked, "German like on sing along, dance dance along?"
On the way home last night, it was dark, and Jonathan wanted to turn on his overhead light in the car so he could see the trees. I explained that that wasn't going to work and that his best view of the trees was what he was seeing already because it was dark. He asked if the sun could come back and I said it would in the morning. Where is the sun? It's shining on Aunt Janet in Japan. "Then she will be dark when the sun comes back to us?" Yes! "Then it will shine on her when we get dark again?" Yes! "Oh!"

I think "iron" is the hardest word in the English language to sing. "Earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone" always confounds my tongue.
