I try to take Jonathan's questions seriously and answer them as accurately as I can.  This morning, I could not think of a better answer than "well, the cells, they just do." (Which is not very satisfying.)

So I looked to the internet for help.  All I can find is that this "sticking together" is called "cell adhesion."  But I can't find how they do it.  Does anyone know, to satisfy the curiosity of a three year old (and now his mother!)?

P.S. All sorts of things are written on my "for the blog" paper and they will get posted someday soon...

I found out recently (at a Chris Tomlin concert, of all places) that one of the answers is a protein called laminin. Use google images to search for laminin and see what shows up. How cool is our God?
