Jonathan borrowed a playdough pliers from the Kuhns and discovered that it makes nice little barrels.  Since his dough is now all colors mixed up, it is brown.  Lisa thought they looked like Tootsie Rolls.  A few days later when he was telling another friend about the things he borrowed, he said, "You know, the thing that makes sushi rolls."  That's Aunt Janet's nephew to know what sushi rolls are and not Tootsie Rolls

Jonathan rarely likes to be a floor away from me, but prefers to come up and down the stairs as I do, even if I'm coming right back.  Recently, though, he's been asking for me to leave Noah with him and then he will stay!  I call it the little brother as a security deposit - if I'm leaving Noah there, Jonathan knows I'm really coming right back.

Pittsburgh is putting in conduit for underground power lines and that means digging up Penn Avenue.  The other day it finally reached the section behind our house, so Jonathan watched from the windows for a long time.  We also went out for a walk to watch - it was pretty fun!

One of the main ideas of attachment parenting is that if your children have learned from infancy that you are available to take care of them, they will be more secure to venture out in independence.  I didn't take Jonathan to the babysitting at my women's Bible study until he started asking to go (about a year ago), and he always was allowed to come back to me whenever he wanted.  Now he loves to be there and only occasionally comes back in before the end.

Giant Eagle (grocery store chain) has a room called the Eagle's Nest in many of its larger stores.  It is a place for people to drop off their kids while they are  shopping.  Jonathan has expressed interest in it before but usually he doesn't see it until we're leaving.  I did look at it enough to see that you must be at least three years old to go in.

Last week, he saw it when we entered and asked to go.  I thought if he really wanted to, we could try it.  So we went up to see if 11 days away from three was close enough.  Sadly for Jonathan, the lady said she must be strict about the age requirement.  He was genuinely sad about it, crying not in temper but in sorrow.

What a difference a year makes!

He knows sushi rolls but not Tootsie Rolls -- that's my boy!

And a very honest mother -- no one would have guessed by either his looks or his actions that he's not yet three. :)
