Since reading The Cat in the Hat, Jonathan has expressed interest in flying kites. The other day, he said, "Jonathan fly kites, too - three!"
On Friday, Mom, Jonathan and I went shopping in the Strip District to get things like cheese, mustard, curry paste and spices. Penzey's Spices has moved there from Squirrel Hill, which is a strategic move on their part and also nicer for me. (: In the back corner of the store, they have a small table and chairs with paper and crayons so that children can find something to do while their parents (or grandmas) are browsing the spices.

Jonathan thought that was great and drew a many-colored picture. Then he exclaimed, "That is a J for Jonathan!" Sure enough, there was a nice little J in blue crayon. I offered to finish writing his name and he accepted.

It was snowing that day and enough had fallen and stuck on the boat that Grandma was able to make some snowballs for him, which he enjoyed very much. It has since snowed more and we spent a long time outside yesterday, shoveling, making small snowmen and snowballs, eating snow, stomping on snow and generally having a blast.

Last night in the car, Jonathan counted by himself up to 11, and then Jon said, "twelve" and Jonathan repeated it. They continued up to about 56, Jonathan repeating each number as Jon said it. For each set of ten, when Jon said, "[ten]-one" Jonathan said, "[ten]-two" and thereafter he repeated Jon's number.

Today was Jonathan's 2-year well child visit. He is 37 inches tall and 45.5 pounds. We had the by now familiar conversation about his weight - Dr.Anderson saying, in effect, I have to tell you this but I know you're going to keep on doing what you're doing; and me saying, yes, I'm going to keep on doing what I'm doing. I did say I'd rather tell Jonathan not to have chips than to cut down on breastfeeding. Dr.Anderson said he'd like Jonathan to maintain this 45 pound weight, which he actually has been doing for several months now. Today I'm going to weigh him on our scale, which had said 47 lbs a couple of weeks ago.

Everything else was hunky dory. They did take blood to do another lead test just to make sure that it's continuing to go down. Jonathan was a brave trooper, though he did cry heartily because the nurse had to move the needle around to get the blood flowing. But he recovered quickly and enjoyed the pretzels she gave him afterwards.

Does that mean Dr. Anderson thinks you should feed him less breastmilk to keep his weight down? Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with your history with him to figure out the meaning of this paragraph.

Yes. Breastmilk has a high fat content, and Dr.Anderson has been concerned ever since the study about fat American children came out. But breastmilk has the best nutrition so I'm not going to cave in.
