Last week, Noah opened the childproofed cabinets in the kitchen.  It was no fluke - he closed it after the first time, and then deliberately repeated his action.  So we have disabled those and instructed him not to open those cabinets (he is obeying so far.)  These are the "glass" cabinets, whose contents are breakable.  The "lock" is still on the under-sink cabinet, which Noah has not yet tried to explore.

I have started praying for Noah to talk and he is moving forward.  He now has words for dog (dah-dah) and bird (bah-bah.)  Change the vowel sounds a bit on dog, and he might have Dada but I don't think he's consistently used it for Jon. He says "uh-uh" for no, and "hm" with nodding for yes.

We have started asking him to try saying some words - "Please may I have a banana?" He signs please. "Say, 'banana'" [Shy expression] "Ba!"  "Good job" And we give it to him.  Some of his attempts sound very much like the word and some not at all, but we always reward the effort.  One of his successes was "cashew."

I have found that he gets embarrassed if I make too much exclamation over a success, so I try to be matter of fact.  It's really hard!

He's taking after your cousin B&T in shyness over praise. (If you've been reading the comments on my blog, you'll know what I'm talking about.)

Today Noah said, "door" and "light" (and maybe even "close door" and "light on")
