So much exciting stuff happened today that I want to get it written down now, even before we post about our vacation to Canada this weekend.
Jonathan made up his own rhymes today and was obviously pleased with himself. "Toe-oh-bo" in the morning and "Hello, Moe! Hello, Joe!" into the phone in the afternoon. None of these syllables are in any books that we have, at least not together like that.

A first in the area of self-control: We had just seen the musical instruments bits several times and when he said, "more" I told Jonathan that we needed to start making dinner and that we could see more later. He started his I'm-not-getting-what-I-want whine, "Na..." but then he stopped, collected himself and said, in a wonderfully calm and regular voice, "Nano, please."

In the evening, we were up in our bedroom, folding clothes and playing around. I put him on for a piggy-back ride and started humming William Tell ("ba dee yump, ba dee yump, ba dee yump bump bump...) and bouncing him around, this time at the climax throwing him backwards onto the bed which he thought was immensely funny. He would then ask for more "yump-bump-bump."

Sometime later, we were downstairs with Daddy and he looked up suddenly from nursing and said, "trapeze." So I got it down for him (it's in a doorway, so must be hung out of the way for the most part) and he started playing around. Then all of a sudden, he picked his feet up and swung for real! The three of us were thrilled! Mommy ran up to get the camera and got a few videos, which are posted on the pictures page, but are really dark. In the last one he says, "All-done, Mommy camera" which we thought was pretty funny, but of course I put it down and we enjoyed the rest of his trapeze-ing without it.

So that was our very busy and fun day.

Hooray for the self-control victory! I'm sure the resulting delay in dinner was well worthwhile. I'm also pleased that he likes the musical instrument bits so much. :)
