Jonathan likes to eat turnips (just cut up and boiled) - he was exclaiming over them so much I thought it should go into the blog.

He counted backwards from five the other day, on his own. He said, "That's Soot-su's address."

This morning he drew a "6" very nicely, without copying from anything (a circle and then a straight line on the left.)  Then he asked me to write a "5" and he copied it well.

Grandma sent us the first set of Bob books when she read of Jonathan's interest in letters and sounding things out.  He likes the stories (I read all of them to him when they arrived) and yesterday he and Jon worked through the first book together.  He can sound out "Mat" (and the other words, too) if he thinks about it, but he mostly tried to tell the story by the pictures.  I think Jon and I will complement each other well in homeschooling; I don't want to push things and thus put him off from learning, but Jon does a great job of encouraging Jonathan to keep going/trying and making it still fun even when he says that he can't do it.

Lovely! Since I had the books sent directly to you, I didn't get a preview. If you'll send me a list of words used in the books, I'll use them in my letters (without pictures).

Mr. Andy will be pleased about the turnips!
