I guess I will need to read the book - I have not liked a fair amount of what John Piper has to say (which is unfortunate, since my church loves everything he says). But I happened across Slice of Laodicea and read the following quote today, which is exactly how I have been thinking recently:... (More)

Who would have guessed that back when I started writing back in November of 2002 that I was starting what would eventually become a blog, and fairly regular posts?  Certainly not me. Here are the "most significant posts" calculated by various methods: Number of comments:... (More)

I happened across Wynne's blog today, since I was poking around on various CMU alums' web sites. She recently linked to this story about standardized testing . I don't have much that is original to say about this, but figured some of you might like to read the article. (More)

Reading Mom's post about the TV/autism study reminded me of my own recent negative TV experience. On Friday at care group, Jonathan inadvertantly went to the babysitting before we wanted him to, and they ended up seeing several kids' shows on video. Much of his conversation all weekend... (More)

I hadn't really paid attention to this date, since there have been so many delays and various things, but I just got this from Vicki: Unless we hear otherwise, Judy's hearing is still on for Thursday. I just spoke with Judy and she asked me to post a reminder regarding the hearing.... (More)

Serina wrote a post on raw milk that I started to comment on, when I decided it deserved a whole post on my own blog. I thought the person quoted in the raw milk article made a good point about lettuce, etc. making people sick. Think of the recent spinach/e.coli thing. Are states now... (More)

Last weekend, Heather was sick with mastitis, which meant she just wanted to lie in bed all day with flu-like symptoms. It actually started on Friday morning, and she did get progressively better throughout the day, but still decided to stay home from care group that night. I was planning on... (More)

Bill linked to a new (at least to me) personality profile thingy. I haven't done the Meyers-Briggs test in a while, but I have consistently scored ESFP, and I generally like that assessment. One version of the test had a fairly long paragraph describing ESFP's, and it fit exactly. (I always... (More)

7/2 - Jonathan shows me his baby Joseph and says, "This is my small baby Joseph, but his last name is Noah." 7/6 - We go to get Noah's PKU test. He weighs in at 10lb 15 oz, and the doctor asks the nurse if she is joking! No question now (there never was in my mind) whether Jonathan is taking... (More)

Jonathan can be very good at pouring things if he is careful. He can pour just the right amount of juice into a glass, he can pour just the right amount of cereal into a bowl. Sometimes he gets excited, especially to look around to make sure we're watching him, and that often leads to trouble.... (More)

[ Update 10/24/2006: thanks to you all reading this post and posting other links, I have since found more interesting ones -- look through the comments - the one posted on October 9th appears to be pretty hard, though maybe I just made a mistake on... From Vicki: Just a reminder that Oral Arguments will be heard tomorrow in Judy's case. The judge could make a ruling tomorrow from the bench, or otherwise he has up to 120 days to rule. There is a possibility the case could be dismissed or it could go to trial. I will post an update as... (More)
