When I hear Jonathan say "uh-oh" I need to pay attention. Usually it just means he dropped something on the floor on purpose. But sometimes it's something I need to attend to. Yesterday Jonathan was playing on the counter by the sink and he said "uh-oh" but I did not see anything amiss.... (More)

Jonathan has been asking to vacuum the house all week, but I told him we had to wait until Monday. Today he was so excited when I was vacuuming that he was bouncing and grinning and saying, "vacuum" over and over again. He also got a new set of reading words today and "vacuum" was one. He loved... Jonathan said, "book" today when he went to his bookshelf. He read one of his numbers books for quite a long time. He can now say, "bye-bye" also. The occasions when he does it are when the toilet is flushing and when his turtle turns off. He may also say "umbrella" but it is not yet refined. (More)

Yesterday, Jonathan signed "more" very clearly and correctly. I rewarded him by fulfilling his request - more dried cranberries from my granola. Then in the evening while we were waiting for a bus, he signed "toilet" - not as perfectly, but obviously enough. Unfortunately, there was no place to... (More)

The Venables came over for dinner last night. When Jonathan pointed to a button on Hannah's outfit, I said, "That's a button." He immediately poked his finger at it and said, "Push!" (More)

Today was full of Jonathan doing amazing things, but I'll start with Sunday, on which he walked to the store and back, only being carried across a street once when the traffic was too busy - the other streets he crossed himself, holding on to Daddy's hand. Today, when I asked him to give me the... (More)

The night we arrived (Monday) was "Christmas Eve" so we each opened our one present from "Mr. Ho" and filled the stockings for the morning. It turns out that Santa had also visted Bermuda, because we each received a souvenir ornament from Bermuda. "Christmas" morning was leisurely, as Mom had to... (More)

Christmas Eve morning, Jonathan threw up. It turned out to be a stomach bug, so the performance repeated itself several times. We took a bath and napped in a chair. (He seemd to throw up more if he was lying down, so I held him upright and tried to sleep myself.) We tried to nurse, but it just... (More)

I guess I don't really have time to write these as they happen, so you get a week's worth of stuff at once: December 14 - In women's Bible study babysitting, Jonathan pointed to the door and said, "door." When Miss Rachel did not respond to that, he went to her, grabbed her hand, took her to... (More)

Other things have gotten priority over this blog recently, but I have been keeping brief notes, so here are some tidbits:November 28 - Jonathan climbed onto the red couch all by himself. November 30 - Jonathan now can say "no." One time as I was putting dishes in the dishwasher, he closed the... (More)

Our DSL went down and Jon called me and did a three way with Speakeasy to see what was going on. After trying a couple of things that did not work, Jon mentioned that it was raining, but not lightning. I went to the window to check things out, and I saw a Verizon guy up at the telephone pole.... A Comcast guy came to the door yesterday.Cable Guy: "4565 Carroll - you don't have cable." Me: "Nope. We don't watch TV." CG: "You don't?" Me: "No." CG: "Do you have a TV?" Me: "Yes, but we only use it to watch movies." CG: "Oh. So you don't watch any TV at all?" Me: "Only the five... (More)

Is, I think, what Jonathan says for his name. He has said J-J in the mirror before. After shuffling his family bits the last time, the Jonathan bit came up in front, and is easily visible in the file rack. Just now, Jonathan went up to it, pointed at it, and said, "J-J-J" with the syllabic... (More)
