I was reminded of the Incredibles today by a slashdot article, and I went looking for the "Everyone's special, Dash." "That's just another way of saying nobody is." quote, and came across this guy's review of the movie. Interesting.

The article made me think of the soldiers' suits in Robert Heinlein's Starship Troopers.

The review was interesting, too, but I'd be willing to bet Dash's complaint was less inspired by politics and more by the Harrison Bergeron Syndrome that so many have encountered, especially in school. The evil Syndrome in the movie at least tried to make everyone equal by "raising everyone to the level of the supers"; the more common effort is to bring any excellence down. See also C. S. Dash's comment is one of my favorite parts of the movie -- though nothing beats the alternate beginning with Helen's spirited defense of homemaking as an honorable profession!
