(Originally read on the phone, Mother's Day, 2006)

Dear Mom,
I want to say some things to you and I thought it would be easier to write them in a letter because I am not very good with words and after all those years of getting me to write thank you notes, you know how hard it is for me to say, "Thank you".

I want to thank you for being my mom.
There certainly are a lot of memories over the years, some I wish never happened and some that have taught and brought me to where I am today.

I thank you for your worry and concern, though at least sometimes unfounded, it did show me that you cared. Thank you for modeling by example and teaching me to cook, sew, clean and generally be competent to take care of myself. To sing, to play the piano, to serve and care for others, to be the last person out of church, to be direct and truthful, and many other things.

I thank God that you are my mother.

Thank you, your son, Jon
