I don't think I have written about USA Datanet on this blog.  They just reminded me to tell everyone how great they are, so I will gladly do so.

USA Datanet is our long distance provider.  They provide a local number that we call when we think we are going to make a lengthy long-distance call.

There isn't a contract, no minimum monthly fees, and you don't change your long distance company. They charge $.10/minute, which is pretty high, but, they have a $1/call maximum to 10 surrounding states, and $2/call maximum to the rest of the country, so depending on how much your regular long distance costs, you can judge when you should use USA Datanet versus a direct-dialed long distance call.

They have local numbers all over the country, so we get the same rates while traveling.  They have higher rates if there isn't a local number, presumably since it costs them more money to have the 800 number, so we don't use that as much.

They also have VOIP, but I didn't get around to trying them before I gave up on VOIP altogether.

(You get $5 and I get $10 if you sign up, so let me know if you want to try it out)

Huh, "long distance"... is that the thing they used to have on phones where they charge you a different amount based on which number you call? I'd almost forgotten about that. ;) OK, not quite, just within the USA. Do they have good international rates?

Well, yes, if you are willing to pay way more than we do, you can get unlimited in the US.

I think their international rates are alright - I don't know if I have ever used them, so that isn't much of a criteria for me. We also use ZoneLD.com, but it doesn't appear that their rates are public, and they changed the logins, so I can't login any more.
