I wrote it out formally about a year ago but it never got onto the blog. So below is the story. I'll post a comment on Jonathan's first post with a link to this one. Jonathan's Gentle Birth by Heather Daley This is Jonathan's birth story, but to really appreciate it, the... (More)

Had another prenatal appointment yesterday. All is well. She found the heartbeat right away this time, but Jon couldn't find it himself. He is too cautious - but I'd sure rather he be too gentle than too rough! We had to wait a little while because there was a new baby born this morning. He... (More)

Posting this, since it took me a long time to find this site today when I wanted to stop my home computer from annoying me with the reboot dialogs every couple of minutes. If you never reboot your computer, it might be a good idea to not implement this solution, since you might forget to ever... Mark Minasi, a guy who writes a Windows newsletter about various IT tricks and other things related to using a Windows system. This month, the majority of his newsletter was about spam, and I think he missed a couple points, so I wrote to him, and it ended up pretty long, so I figured I might... (More)

Based on an excruciating headache Wednesday afternoon, October 12, that did not go away, Jon and I headed to West Penn Hospital Emergency Room at 10:30pm. A friend came to the house to watch Jonathan while he slept. Here is an aside - it was so good for Jonathan that he did not come, he would... (More)

Mom found this house while canoeing in the Merrimack River, and thinks it is just perfect for us. It does look great! There is a lot of land (13 acres) and a lovely place for the Black Rabbit to launch from. We have gotten used to Pittsburgh housing prices, so anything is a shock, but this... (More)

While it is impossible to keep up with all of the new words Jonathan can say, there are interesting stories every once in a while (how "interesting" is measured is probably different among the different readers of this blog) and so I like to share them. Also, I realized that sometimes we say he... (More)

Sunday after church Jon suggested we go sailing again since we did not make it the day before. After lunch, we headed out again, this time to North Park because it is closer. The wind was strong, the best we've had in Pittsburgh so far. However, it was also gusty and changed direction a lot in... (More)

This was quite the weekend of the sailboat. Saturday's adventures pale in comparison to Sunday's, but I want to write them down anyway. After lunch on Saturday, we headed out to Moraine State Park, where we have never sailed before. It is about an hour away, but it has a nice big lake. We... (More)

On Saturday evening we were at a reception for a friend's baptism and Jonathan and I headed outside for some play. It was dusk and the fireflies started appearing. I caught some to show Jonathan and he loved them. Then to my surprise, he said, "I got it, firefly!" and sure enough, he had... (More)

One day for dinner I prepared a noodle dish from a toddler-friendly cookbook that was "toddler rated 10 out of 10." I also made asparagus as a side dish. Jonathan loves asparagus and helped me taste test it as I was preparing it. Then at dinner we had to tell him that he had to eat a couple... (More)

After much disturbing of the poor robins, I have taken off the paneling over the window and have a lovely view of the nest. It is at a rather awkward angle for the camera, but I can still get some shots. I have a pillowcase suspended from the ceiling about 8 inches from the window, so that our... (More)

5/8 - "I got it"; maybe "I love you"; when I got a candle at church for Mother's Day, I told Jonathan it was one of the smelly kinds, and he held it up to my nose. 5/9 - "Mommy" !!!!!! You know, there is just something so sweet and heart-melting when his little voice says "mommy." I didn't... (More)

We went in to see Dr. Anderson yesterday because Jonathan has had a recurrence of the coughing and throwing up routine, and this morning started a fever. He says it is most likely a virus that is causing postnasal drip, which is irritating his throat to make his cough, which is causing his... (More)

He seems to have at least one new word a day now. Sometime before March 24, he said "boots." On March 24 he signed "cheese" and drank some water from a small bathroom cup by himself without crushing the cup to a pulp and without spilling very much. He says water that sounds like "why." Other... (More)
