The Concord Monitor wrote a front page story about my grandfather and the place where he (and my great aunt) live, Havenwood-Heritage Heights.

I thought this quote accurately describes his outlook on life:

Whether I live long enough or not, I don't know. But it's worth a try.

Your Language Arts Grade: 100%
Way to go! You know not to trust the MS Grammar Check and you know "no" from "know." Now, go forth and spread the good word (or at least, the proper use of apostrophes).

Are You Gooder at Grammar?

Thank you for taking my little quiz. If you scored high, I promise not to twitch over your typos. If you scored low, please tell me it's because you're a programmer. Hopefully the goofy grammarian I used to work with isn't seething over some misspelling.

Like those lists of song titles if we sung what we really meant (like "I Surrender Some", etc), here is an all-new worship-me cd: It's all about me

At the Shursave today, our favorite cashier, Robert, did a double take when he scanned the package of cheesecloth.

I heard about bump keys recently, and had a little time to play around this morning.  I read an article about them, and watched a youtube video, and away I went.  It took about 15 minutes to hand-file a key.  And then another 20 minutes to try the "pull-back" method, file the key a little more and switch to the "minimal-movement" method, spray a little WD-40 in the lock -- tada!  I was kind of surprised that it actually worked.

I tried again, and it took me maybe 10 minutes to open it.  You have to bang harder than you might expect.  The next time was maybe 2 minutes, and then 30 seconds.  I switched to the door handle (I had been working on the deadbolt -- there apparently is some risk of breaking the lock, and I figured if I can only choose one lock to have working, I would rather have the handle lock working) and I opened it in about 10 seconds.

Noah, as mentioned in Jon's saturday post, has been grabbing for my food, and I have started giving him tiny squashed samples.  This is one of the great differences between him and his big brother, who did not care very much for solid food until at least a year.  Yet it's not like this big boy is lacking any nutrition! (More)

Well, so far he hasn't forgotten things from before he was three.  Just out of the blue the other day, Jonathan was talking about the Maggie P and said, "That burning up fire toilet is pretty cool." (More)

My mother shared this story in response to an article about "bump keys" and someone suggested that we should all move to NH, where people leave their doors unlocked anyway. (More)

It has been a long time since the last time Jonathan and I went out on a trip together, and Heather suggested that I take the kids to give her some time to clean and other things by herself.

First, we glued all of the dining room chairs, since they have been falling apart more than usual lately.  Then, Jonathan and I changed the oil in the car and topped off the various fluids.

Tonight, due to the Steeler's game, the first snowfall, and regular silly commuters, my trip home took an hour and 15 minutes, resulting in an average speed of 3.5 miles an hour.

The last mile and a half took 45 minutes.

Top right poked through yesterday after a biting-the-counter stint.  Got his second shot and barely cried.  Didn't even need to nurse.  What a tough kid!
