Jonathan can be very good at pouring things if he is careful. He can pour just the right amount of juice into a glass, he can pour just the right amount of cereal into a bowl. Sometimes he gets excited, especially to look around to make sure we're watching him, and that often leads to trouble.... (More)

Don't ever name your child the same name as you. It confuses everyone, from doctors to insurance carriers to airlines. USAir and United won't let me check-in online any more, since it can't figure out what to do with Jonathan and me. We both have different frequent flyer numbers, but it is... (More)

I was working on the computer this morning, so Heather and Jonathan made it downstairs before I did. Jonathan asked Heather if he could make breakfast (eggs, since it is Saturday), and Heather said that he wasn't ready to do it by himself, and do it with Daddy. When I got downstairs, he asked me,... I'm so excited about last night's (almost) from scratch Mediterranean dinner success that I have to post! I have come a long way to where I got yesterday. First, when I made this dinner, I would make falafel from a mix, raita (which is actually an Indian name, but I know there's cucumber yogurt... (More)

That statement by Jonathan is what I woke up to from my nap this afternoon. It has worked before - to let him play quietly by himself while I take my nap. But today, well, he just tried to be a little more independent than he's truly capable of. He crawled up onto the bed and stood up next to... (More)

One reason Jonathan talks so well is because we talk to him like a real person. Children learn by hearing and by imitating. It is sometimes amusing to hear the things that he says. For example, he got a valentine's day card from Aunt Ellie, and as he saw the stickers on the back and was... (More)
