Jonathan will now sometimes say "please" when he signs it. He also says "ee-oh" when we ask if he wants some Cheerios. He likes to say "whee!" when he is riding on or in something (like the laundry basket) He has a two syllable "word" that sounds like a cross between "dump truck" and "tow... (More)

Jonathan love to say "hot" and he often says hot when he means cold - ie snow, ice cubes. This morning while we were looking out the window, he said, "hot" again for the snow and the cold window. I showed him the sign for cold and repeated the sign for hot and explained to him that they were... (More)

Jonathan has been very happy with his bits recently, asking for them a lot. He is never bored with the picture bits, but I have had to scale down on the math and reading cards. However, the other day I discovered a way to show the math dots that keeps him riveted. I say the number several... (More)

We are on our way to Vermont to spend a weekend with my family, and I printed out our boarding passes earlier today, and the web page asked me if I wanted to change my seat assignment. There were two choices that looked better, though one pair of seats was all the way in the front, which... (More)

When I hear Jonathan say "uh-oh" I need to pay attention. Usually it just means he dropped something on the floor on purpose. But sometimes it's something I need to attend to. Yesterday Jonathan was playing on the counter by the sink and he said "uh-oh" but I did not see anything amiss.... (More)

Jonathan said, "book" today when he went to his bookshelf. He read one of his numbers books for quite a long time. He can now say, "bye-bye" also. The occasions when he does it are when the toilet is flushing and when his turtle turns off. He may also say "umbrella" but it is not yet refined. (More)

Yesterday, Jonathan signed "more" very clearly and correctly. I rewarded him by fulfilling his request - more dried cranberries from my granola. Then in the evening while we were waiting for a bus, he signed "toilet" - not as perfectly, but obviously enough. Unfortunately, there was no place to... (More)

Christmas Eve morning, Jonathan threw up. It turned out to be a stomach bug, so the performance repeated itself several times. We took a bath and napped in a chair. (He seemd to throw up more if he was lying down, so I held him upright and tried to sleep myself.) We tried to nurse, but it just... (More)

Warning: this post has to do with potty training and bowel movements. Those who do not wish to read such things should not click the "more" link. The new little potty we got Jonathan is great for urination, but it is not quite right for bowel movements. He does his best when squatting all the... (More)

Jonathan has been quite consistently using the "milk" sign, sometimes with both hands! It is a fun game to sign "milk" to each other while he's nursing. One time a couple of days ago, he did not seem as happy with the game as before, and I wondered if he was trying to sign "toilet." I showed... (More)

I decided to write a post to describe the features of the plugins that I wrote, and upgrades that I made to existing plugins to others can benefit from their use as well. You can see the actual source code, or else read my feeble descriptions. User Comments by Jon Daley : Description:... (More)

It had always annoyed me that you couldn't use smarty commands in the stylesheet files in plog. It turns out it wasn't that hard to figure out, and the original authors had it basically done, but if you believe the comments, didn't think it worked yet. It is helpful to change... (More)

Whether you know the program as Merant, Serena or PVCS, the setup is difficult, and despite the sales department insistence that you don't need a full-time person to run their servers, I am starting to doubt it. Here are the instructions to setup a new project using the file server model... (More)
