On My Yahoo! page, I chose a number of comics and topics to appear on the front page. This morning, I found an interesting article about whether parents are scheduling too much for their children(More)

We are on our way to Vermont to spend a weekend with my family, and I printed out our boarding passes earlier today, and the web page asked me if I wanted to change my seat assignment. (More)

I finally got around to fixing up the mail statistics graph, after I accidentally erased all of our email for the past year.

I finally figured out a name for my web-hosting and embedded software company. I had decided on FIRM Solutions in December, but then someone beat me to buying the domain name. (More)

I downloaded the development version of plog, and it is likely to be a little bumpy the next couple of days. The current schedule says it will be released in March, and I am planning on helping out. I have been working on the code behind the scenes anyway, but since I was working on the older version, it wasn't very useful. (More)

I decided to write a post to describe the features of the plugins that I wrote, and upgrades that I made to existing plugins to others can benefit from their use as well. You can see the actual source code, or else read my feeble descriptions. (More)

It had always annoyed me that you couldn't use smarty commands in the stylesheet files in plog. It turns out it wasn't that hard to figure out, and the original authors had it basically done, but if you believe the comments, didn't think it worked yet. (More)

A friend of ours was complaining about spam, and Heather agreed, and said she had been getting tons of spam lately. I questioned her on that, since I am in charge of the filters that filter our spam, and I think they do a pretty good job: maybe 15-20 spams got through in the last two years.
She said, well, I got one yesterday, and one today.

I just discovered another nifty feature of the Google search engine. You can paste in UPS and USPS tracking numbers, and will automatically provide you a link to the appropriate site, so you can track your package. (More)

People at work have finally gotten sick of the lack of support from our IT department. Their FTP site was not operable the other day, and a sales guy needed to get some files for a meeting, so R&D purchased its own FTP site so we would be able to manage it, rather than depend on IT to get it working again. We just purchased it for a month, so then we could evaluate it after the month is over. The month has now run out, and so R&D decided to instead pay for my internet connection, and then I can run the server for them. Pretty nifty.

I just noticed on SpamCop that since August I have received 1.5 bytes/second of spam. And I get significantly less spam than most people I know. What a waste of time.

Jack Ganssle is a conference speaker and has a monthly newsletter that I have been subscribed to for a couple years. He wrote an article called, A Boss's Guide to Software Process Improvement that I found myself agreeing with the majority of it.

Speakeasy is my DSL provider. Snurgle.org also uses them, so that is how I heard about them. We have been using them for a year or so, and the ten times or so that I had to open a customer support ticket, it has gone quite well, and fairly fast response time (within a couple of days at the most). (More)
