Jonathan climbed up one whole flight of stairs all by himself this morning! Mommy was at the top and Daddy was behind. At first, he slid down a few stairs, but Jon actually did not have to do any catching the whole way.

A friend told me about a nifty web page, FreeCycle. There are groups all over the place that have formed for the purpose of giving away stuff. I just got a Xerox machine from a company downstairs from my office, but I wouldn't ever have heard of them had it not been for FreeCycle.
By the way -- the company that gave me the copier is called Radio Information Services, and the service they provide sounds neat.

Ok, so I wrote the previous post after this happened, but I had been meaning to write it before.
Jonathan has always been fascinated with lights. Yesterday, I held him up to the light in our bedroom and gave him the cord and showed him how to pull it so the light would turn on and off. This afternoon, I was holding Jonathan on the bed, and he reached for the window blind cord. When I gave it to him, he yanked on it and said, "Pull!" I explained that he was holding the cord for the blinds, so it wouldn't be exciting. So I took him to the light again, and he said "pull" several times while pulling the cord and turning the light on and off. How cool is that!?!

There are times when it seems like Jonathan is saying something in the right context, but it's hard to be sure if he really "means" it. Here are a few of those: Da-dy, Mom, bus, water, ball, out

Jonathan had a routine blood test at his 9 month appointment, and they say he has a high lead content in his blood. They are re-running the test today, to make sure that they didn't mess it up the first time.
The city will test your water, so we did that this morning. I think it takes a week or two to get the results back. (More)

It is somewhat humorous I guess, that all this takes so long and that the judges and attornies (and coroner) schedule all these meetings, get paid a ton per hour, and then don't bother to show up (or subpeona the witness, or let the interested parties know when things are happening, etc).
There was supposed to be a hearing this last Friday to schedule the trial date, but when Judy and her lawyer traveled the couple hours into Pittsburgh to be told that the judge was on vacation, so there isn't a date scheduled yet. I wonder if this always happens, or are they just specially treating Judy?
The guess is in March sometime.

Today at Women's Bible Study, Jonathan stood up all by himself, without pulling up on anything or anyone.

When I was installing RT (Request Tracker) I got an error, since I hadn't ever set up CPAN before. After searching for a bit, here is the solution. I figured I would post this here to help others in the future find it in google quicker. (More)

Wake up at 3AM because you can't sleep.
Notice that the shower has not drained from the day before.
Plunge the tub to force the water through the slow drain.

I just discovered last night that if you type in more than one word into the address bar, FireFox assumes you are doing a google search, and even better, does the "I'm feeling lucky" feature of google. So, if you type Jon Daley into firefox's address bar, it goes to my home page. Faster than typing out snurgle.org...

Jonathan walked from the doorway of the computer room to the mirror in the hallway all by himself! The distance is about six feet. He cheered for himself when he got to the mirror (:

I added a small color changing picker (bottom right of this page), if you don't like my purply colors. Of course, you can only pick the colorsets that I let you, and right now there isn't much interesting, but I will get around to making some more at some point. (More)

Last night, Jonathan, from a standing position and without holding onto anything else, bent down to pick up a toy and straightened up again.

Ever notice how it now takes a year for Acrobat Reader to load up? You can speed it up about 20x or so, by moving the plugins you don't use out of the "startup" folder. If you put the files into the "optional" folder, I believe it will still be able to find them when you want to use them, and it will load them then.
A reasonable default is to leave ewh32.api, search.api, and reflow.api in your plugins directory, and move everything else into the optional folder.
You can make a disabled_plugins directory if you want them to be really gone.

Bernie says our car is dead. He can't figure out what is going on. He thought maybe the dealership might know something, but he didn't have a lot of hope.
I have heard that a 1988 Dodge Caravan was/is a really good car, and should last a long time.
I do see lots of them around Pittsburgh. But, something is messing up the engine, so it has a hard time starting and a hard time idling. I guess if you keep your foot on the gas, then it does alright, although it wears out the starter.
I don't really want to buy another car. They are so much money, and I don't have any idea what a good price is.
