I realized this morning that we didn't ever post about going to the Pasteriks a month ago or so. Jonathan had lots of fun with the animals, but what I thought was neat is that he figured out how to climb up the ladder to go down the slide. (More)

We already know that Jonathan can match shapes, since he is successful at playing with shape sorters. Now I know that Jonathan can match colors if he wants to. We were playing with his sheet of alphabet stickers, and he took four I's off to put on his hands. Later, he wanted to put them back, and he deliberately matched them up to go in the right places.

Jonathan is saying new words so quickly now that it is impossible to keep track of them. Here are a few highlights from the past week. (More)

5/8 - "I got it"; maybe "I love you"; when I got a candle at church for Mother's Day, I told Jonathan it was one of the smelly kinds, and he held it up to my nose.
5/9 - "Mommy" !!!!!! You know, there is just something so sweet and heart-melting when his little voice says "mommy." I didn't completely understand my friend's reaction when her son said "Mama" for the first time, but now I do.
Other words - "screwdriver"; "Dad-o" in reference to Grandpa Wightman; "zebra"; "outside"
5/12 - "beep"; "watch" as a noun as well as a verb. Jonathan almost was a stowaway when the Kuhns left after dinner - he slipped out the door when Grandma was not looking and tried to get in their car.
5/17 - "button"; "school bus"

This morning, as we were nursing on and off in bed before getting up, Jonathan asked for "milk, milk" so I offered one. But he pointed to the other one and said "side." Oh! You want the other side! Reminds me of a certain aunt. (:

On April 27, we went to the Zoo with Alissa, Will, Nate, and Sam. I sang to Jonathan the "We're going to the zoo" song and he repeated, "zoo, zoo, zoo!" He also repeated "cheetah" but he growled at the bears on his own. The elephants were much larger in real life than he expected and he didn't like it very much. He loved the lions and was upset when we moved on from them. (More)

April 20 - Completely screwed on the parmesean cheese lid (empty jar.)
April 22 - "chalk"
April 25 - Tripped while dancing on the couch and landed on the coffee table - nasty bruise by his eye. But thank God, his eye is fine. It looks like he was in a fight...
April 26 - "basket" , "dark", signed "mommy"
April 27 - Said, "Daddy? down down, truck." When I said, "you want me to come downstairs and play trucks with you?" he said and signed "please."
Successfully put most shapes into the tupperware shape sorter. At first, he would only put them in if he saw the right hole. After I showed him how to look, he would pick it up and find the hole. The only shape he wouldn't do was the pie piece.

April 16 - "buzz" like a bee, "thank you" !! what a thrill for Mommy - and he's been consistently saying it when we give him things, "whoa" for slipping or similar. Unscrewed the toothpaste cap.

April 17 - "cheerio" with perfect pronuncation, "people", "bonk" (and repeatedly bonking his head on a metal railing...), "roll" (the napkin ring rolls nicely on the dining room table.) Third haircut - looks more and more like a little boy instead of a baby.

I can now recite in their entirety from memory:
Miss Spider's Tea Party
Dr.Seuss's ABC
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
and maybe Sandra Boynton's A to Z, though I haven't tested myself on that one yet.

Sometimes it's hard to tell exactly when he says something, or to remember to write it down. So I've compiled a list of the words Jonathan can say. Maybe I'll even post comments as he adds words. (More)

The other night when it was time to say, "good night" to Daddy, Jonathan kept leaning over for kisses, and once even pursed his lips the right way! (More)

Jonathan can now open the porch door (going from inside to outside) all by himself! He was so happy with the accomplishment, he did it over and over. (More)
