Yes, Jonathan has now started to use personal pronouns correctly. He said the title phrase, and then when we were playing, he said, "Jonathan bulldozer, you backhoe." He's still not consistent, but he's starting to figure it out! (More)

Jonathan got out the large United States puzzle yesterday and had fun playing with the pieces. He would pick up one and I'd tell him what it was. Then he dumped the whole thing out and he would try to put them in. (More)

On Thursday as we were going about our day, Jonathan looked up from his play and said, "Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!"

On Tuesday, I just randomly started singing "All Around the Mulberry Bush" without really thinking about it. When I finished, Jonathan said in a singy voice, "monkey, weasel, monkey, weasel!" (More)

Saturday, Jonathan started counting to 4 consisently and then went up to 6 a few times. Now he consistently counts to 6, and if you say 7 he will then say, 8,9 and sometimes 10. (More)

In addition to not using baby talk (Would my wittle Jonafan wike a nice kissy-poo?) it is a good idea to go even further and not use baby slang. Here is a personal example of how Jonathan learned the correct words instead of a word he would have to grow out of someday. (More)

Jonathan has tried before, unsuccessfully, to fasten the snaps on his onesies. Part of the reason it's hard is that the more he bends over to concentrate, the more his back pulls on the back part, the tighter the snap is - if he tried to adjust his grip, he usually dropped it. (More)

While it is impossible to keep up with all of the new words Jonathan can say, there are interesting stories every once in a while (how "interesting" is measured is probably different among the different readers of this blog) and so I like to share them. Also, I realized that sometimes we say he can say things when really only we can tell what he means, so in this post, I will write in quotes what he actually says. (More)

Jonathan has fallen in love with Dr.Seuss. He will quote from the books while we are doing other things, and laugh - "Pat, cat, No, that!" (More)

Although he still says "hold you" when he means "hold me," Jonathan is starting to figure out the me-you-mine-yours thing. He will now say "mine socks" or "mine shoes." (More)

Jonathan is great at couplets now, for example, "yellow button" "dry diaper" "one hand." He is also increasing his use of complete sentences. One thing he said yesterday was "Yes please, Daddy" which is the first time ever that he has said all three in a row like that for a request.

Jonathan was playing with Heather's hair band, and was calling it a bandand, his word for rubber band, (close to his word for baid-aid: bandane) (More)

Jonathan now identifies two of his butterfly bits by name: "morpho" for brown morpho and "lady" for painted lady. By the way, I always type his words the way he means them, but often they are not exactly like that. For example, these two words actually sound like "my-foh" and "yay-dee." He has been working on his l's though, because sometimes he says a very good "lap." (More)
