Noah likes to help set the table.  When I ask him to put forks at the places, he will run to the drawer and grab a fistfull, then put a fork on top of each plate.  I usually have to help him put away the extras, or they end up all over the place.

Growl.  Arg, we're going to eat you up!

Dogs, Aloo-ki!  We're going to eat you up.

Growl. Growl.  Stomp. There's dogs [being] eating [eaten] up.

The bears have eaten one dog. (More)

Last night Jonathan was helping me set the table for dinner.  He said we should get five plates, but I said no, Noah has his tray so he doesn't need a plate.  But he could get five bowls for the chili, and five spoons.  Then I said, "Make two of them big spoons." "Why?"  "Because Daddy and Miss Sanda like big spoons for chili."  "So, then I should get three small spoons."  That was quick subtraction in his head without any prompting from me! (More)

Can I condense three weeks of activities into one post?  We'll see how it turns out.  One thing we discovered at Christmastime is that Noah loves cocktail sauce.  He just dipped his finger in and licked it off, licked the bowl clean and wanted more!

I felt like going for a walk today, so Jonathan and I headed out, and I let Jonathan decide where we would go at each turn.  We talked some about compass directions, and where the sun was, and sometimes he had an idea which way home was (and then would immediately turn so as to avoid going home).  He seemed to think that if we were on a road that was in the direction of home, that would mean we would have to go home right then.

Most of the detailed turns on the map are intentional trying to remember how we crossed the streets.  We stopped by the Shursave to get some food for tonight, and Jonathan also needed a bathroom stop despite saying that he didn't need to go when we left the house.

11/28 - Sanda has been teaching us Romanian, and one day Jonathan was asking what various random words were.  We thought he said, "walk" and Sanda hesitated because it's a verb, so when she asked him to clarify (I walk, you walk, she walks?) he said, "No! Not 'walk' with a w, 'lock' with an l."

This month has been full, busy, and blog-sparse.  Because we're actually living life instead of blogging about it!  But here goes:

Noah is experimenting more with sounds.  He copies a lot.  Still not much consistently, but here are some things we've heard him say: "where?" "Papa" "more" "Dad" "no" "none" "that" "hot" "hat."  He also often covers his mouth when he sneezes or coughs.

I have been tagged by Liz.  I usually skip participating in such things, but I like this topic.  It is always good to remember blessings and give thanks. (More)

Jonathan loves to create meals and side dishes.  On 10/2, he made a vegetable salad that we have recreated several times.  Carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, radishes, onions, with one lemon's worth of juice as a dressing.  Simple and delicious.

10/12 - I was in the basement doing laundry when the phone rang.  It was Sanda.  She was trying to take a shower and all the water disappeared! It just struck me funny to get a phone call from upstairs.

Sunday morning, after playing outside before church, Jonathan came to me complaining that his eye hurt.  It was red and watering, but I could not see any foreign object.  It continued to be irritated, so I wondered if it might be pinkeye.

The pain would come in waves, hurting the most when he closed his eyes, as for naps and bedtime.  This made me wonder if there was something under his eyelid.

It was not better by yesterday, so we had Dr.Anderson check it out while we were there for Noah.  He did the glow-in-the-dark eye thing and we definitely saw scratches.  It was obvious to me the difference between what his eye looked like and what Jon's and Noah's eyes looked like when they had the same dye test but no abrasions.

Jonathan did appreciate the mirror (which dear nurse Theresa found after much searching) so he could see his own glowing eye.

And guess what?  All those ducts and passages are connected!  What did we see a minute later but a drip of glowing liquid seeping out of his nose...

Dr.Anderson looked as best he could under both eyelids but could not find any particle.  He prescribed an antibiotic ointment (like the stuff you put on your cuts before you put the bandaid on) and referred us to an eye specialist.

So Jonathan has an appointment for tomorrow morning.  His eye looks horrible (he has a hard time restraining himself from rubbing so the outside is red too) and we have to put the medicine in four times a day.  That stings, so it has not been a pleasant experience, but this morning he handled it better than the two times yesterday.

I'm hoping tomorrow will bring a definitive answer and a move towards healing.  Please pray for my dear little boy!  It is hard to see him in pain.

Both boys like to help me with the laundry.  Jonathan can unload the washer completely independently (standing on a stool and leaning nearly all the way in!)  Then he tosses the wet clothes on the dryer door (opens downward to form a shelf of sorts) and Noah pushes or throws the clothes into the dryer.  All while I do something else useful! (More)

We went camping last weekend with some friends from Providence Church and the Venables.  We went to a fairly new, no RV, family-run place near Moraine State Park called Breakneck Campground.   (More)

Hide 'Em In Your Heart scripture memory CDs by Steve Green gets my hearty recommendation for anyone with or without children who wants to memorize scripture in a fun and easy way. We heard about them from our pediatrician (who is a Christian father of young children) and got the first CD from Grandma and Dad-o for Noah's birthday. (More)
